Sea Base Florida Bahamas Trip July 2008

Mark: There are now photos uploaded from boat number 2, from Ralph, including an incredible waterspout picture – somehow I never heard that story!!! Incredible shot!

Reid: “Adventurous” is how I would describe the sailing trip, Sea Base, that we took in July to the Bahamas. Twenty of us, scouts and Dads, went and we had two boats between us. We spent sunny summer days going from Island to Island, never knowing what we would see or find. We saw many interesting landscapes and architecture, swam in beautiful underwater reefs filled with multi-colored fish, and ate some native food and fruit. We even discovered a swimming pool in one of the resorts that offered a welcome treat for a bunch of us one afternoon.

Best of all was the actual sailing, where we would explore all the harbors. Aside from the native “boat people” we also saw ship yards and got a chance to get an inside tour of a 50ft. Catamaran. It was clean, spacious, and more modern than our boat. For sleeping, we “camped out” on the deck each night and fell asleep to the surf and stars. The sun and captain would wake us up each morning for the next day’s adventure.

I would strongly recommend Sea Base for someone who has never experienced sailing or the Bahamas because it was exciting to experience different landscapes, scenery, climates and people. It was equally fun for the crew, -excluding the captain, to hang out together and shoot the breeze!
